Sunday 6/25
Today was another fun filled day in Kauai! We started out the day by spending the morning in the gym. We did a light workout and did some community service by cleaning up the gym while working in teams. Once we were finished, it was looking spotless. Afterwards, we enjoyed another delicious lunch made by Chef Emily. During the afternoon we walked along the Makauwahi Cave Trail that led to a large beautiful cave. Our group learned all about the origins of the cave, who used it and why, and how it led to fascinating archeological discoveries that contributed to our understanding of the lives of past Hawaiians. In addition to learning all about the cave, we learned about general Hawaiian history and how Hawaii came to be the place it is today. After soaking up lots of knowledge, we headed to a beautiful beach with phenomenal waves and a fresh water river!
Once we returned back to the house, our group learned from a different and extremely insightful perspective of Uncle Kawika (Kah-wee-kah). He served in Europe and has been an instructor of various disciplines including painting, wood carving, and so much more! Uncle Kawika inspired us to utilize our dreams to make a piece of art. Our group listened to his unique stories and deep rooted family history. For dinner, we celebrated one of our amazing camp counselor’s birthday! Austin was given a card, signed by everyone, and a happy birthday song! To end the night, lots of people gathered in the living room to enjoy a movie. Overall, today was such an informative and enjoyable day in Kauai! I can’t wait for the new experiences to come!
