Friday 6/23

Today we learned what it means to be a regenerative farmer. After a introduction to the history of the land and its cultural significance I learned so much about farming. The land and what it has to offers us and our body’s, but also what we can offer it. Sally taught us about the history of the sugar mill and how it’s business brought so many people to the island, resulting in the beautiful culture here now. This also caused the soil to be depleted, which is the purpose of Sally’s farm, to grow food that can also help replenish and regenerate the soil so that the community has a sustainable source of food that is not genetically altered or sprayed with pesticides.

While weeding, harvesting, and planting food I felt closer to nature which in turn made me feel better as a person. It made me appreciate the hard work and labor that people go through in order to provide for others. This experience is something I will never forget. The dedication and inspiration that the group and farmers showed makes me feel optimistic about my future. How I can change the world for the better? By planting one seed at a time.
